One Size Fits All????

What are you looking at here? 🤔

The difference in prescribing a one size fits all gym program against an actual “athlete specific” designed program related to their personal weaknesses in the water.

Yes, there’s a difference ✅

Why is it sooooooooo important????

Not only for injury prevention, but for the young athletes longevity in their sport annnnnnnd to build their confidence, endurance, gradual approach to power and loading.. (I could go on and on 🤣).

Did you know ….

The water load experienced when swimming is primarily due to buoyancy and gravity. Buoyancy, an upward force exerted by the water, counteracts gravity, which tends to pull you down. While swimming, your body is partly submerged, and the water displaces a volume equal to the submerged portion. The weight of this displaced water is the buoyant force, which opposes the force of gravity on your body. This means you don’t feel the full weight of the water, but rather a reduced weight due to the upward force.

So to me, I am absolutely flawed that people don’t take into consideration “how” the athlete holds their body position into consideration by viewing the athlete’s in-discrepancies in the water itself.

Unfortunately, we have too many young athletes being prescribed dry-land exercises that are dry-land appropriate. Not for “their”swimming.

Hear me out.

Has your child’s trainer/PT seen the athlete in the water?

Are they receiving footage of how the athlete holds their body position in the water loaded and unloaded or are they just going off an assessment on dryland.

Most of the time, this makes a difference.

Are they just doing what EVERYONE else in the squad are doing?

It’s important because they are all individuals. Little Johnny is different to little Sarah so why are they just going through the motions.

This athlete WAS doing a personalised program that on going to her new squad was told she no longer needed and could just “join the squad”.

She did. Then lost her strength in her areas of concern. I picked up her in discrepancies from underwater footage, sent her back to her physio and EP. We worked together and NOW WE HAVE results again.
